Triglycerides are the main type of fat in the body. Excess of these increases cardiovascular risk, especially when combined with low levels of “good” cholesterol. This has been reported news portal Mayo Clinic.

Triglycerides serve to store energy from food. Their excess is often found in people who are overweight, have diabetes and prediabetes. These conditions can increase your risk of heart disease and stroke.

The combination of high triglyceride levels and low “good” HDL cholesterol levels is particularly dangerous. People with these levels can develop cardiovascular disease even if their “bad” LDL cholesterol levels are normal. This is possible even at the age of 30 to 40.

You can reduce triglycerides by reducing the amount of simple carbohydrates such as refined sugar and flour in your diet. Since alcohol contains a lot of calories and sugar, you should limit your consumption. Add healthy fats to your diet, including olive oil and fish.

You should also aim to do 30 minutes of physical activity every day.

“One of the best ways to lower your triglyceride levels is to exercise. Also, exercise helps you lose weight. When you lose weight, your triglyceride levels increase significantly,” says Mayo Clinic cardiologist Regis Fernandez.

If lifestyle changes do not help lower triglyceride levels, medications, including statins, may be prescribed.

Formerly cardiologist Zakiev said About proven ways to lower cholesterol levels.
