Dentists often hear from patients that the price tag is too high, so they postpone the next visit until later. This behavior will lead to bigger problems and therefore even bigger costs in the future. Dentist-therapist Yulia Raevskaya told socialbites.ca why the amount of dental services is increasing every year.

The first mistake many Russians make is to go to the dentist only when there is severe pain. Treatment of a neglected process is much more expensive than timely detected caries.

“Unfortunately, there is not yet a culture in our country of going to the dentist every six months. Many patients skip preventive examinations and professional hygiene. They only come when something bothers them. As a rule, in such a situation the help of several specialists is needed. For example, failure to treat caries in a timely manner can lead to inflammation of the nerves in the tooth, which requires the general dentist to perform root canal treatment and the orthopedic dentist to place the dental crown,” explained the expert.

In addition, the equipment the dentist uses in his work also plays a big role in pricing.

“Microscope, computed tomography, intraoral scanner; Each of these devices costs more than a million and helps specialists to perform all manipulations as predictably, safely and carefully as possible. Of course, when using modern equipment, the cost of services increases, but the benefits to the patient also increase exponentially,” said Raevskaya.

You can’t save on consumables either. While Russian manufacturers are just gaining momentum, doctors are forced to work with imported products.

“Due to the unstable situation in the world, the supply of materials and equipment is often delayed and prices change. This affects the cost of treatment. What cost 100 rubles yesterday may cost 1,000 rubles today due to rising exchange rates,” said the expert.

The cost of treatment is also affected by the qualifications of the dentist. A novice doctor will have a much lower price than his experienced colleague.

“The training of doctors takes about 7-8 years, after which the doctor sets out on his own. Some people forget about advanced training for a long time, but conscientious doctors work all their lives. Lectures, master classes, webinars, special literature for a year can cost about half a million rubles. “First of all, there will be more demand for a doctor who receives continuing education and the cost of the services he provides will be higher,” he emphasized.

More discerning patients also pay for the service, choosing clinics with friendly staff, comfortable couches and coffee machines.

“It is always nice to come to a place where there is a clean, comfortable, modern dental facility and an atmosphere of trust and security. You will also have to pay for the service, but it is more about self-care, comfort and peace of mind,” the dentist concluded.

Russians before warned about the consequences of improper growth of wisdom teeth.
