Alexander Pavlyuk, who previously served as the country’s First Deputy Minister of Defense, became the new commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The decree regarding his appointment to this position was published on the official website of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
The document states “the appointment of Lieutenant General Alexander Alekseevich Pavlyuk as commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
In the past, this task belonged to Alexander Syrsky. However, at the beginning of February 2024, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the country’s army, replacing the dismissed Valery Zaluzhny.
At the same time, by another decree, the head of state removed Sergei Naev from the post of commander of the joint forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Now this post is occupied by Yuri Sodol, as stated in the document.
The commander of the territorial defense of Ukrainian troops was Igor Plahuta.
10 February Zelenskiy signed Decree on the appointment of deputies to the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Andrey Lebedenko and Vadim Sukharevsky took the respective positions.
