Cardiologist Vijay Nambi from Baylor College of Medicine in the US said high blood pressure can silently contribute to arterial damage over a long period of time, subsequently leading to heart attack and stroke. Recommendations published on: Web site Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).

The doctor explained that the negative consequences of hypertension may not appear until serious health problems arise. Dizziness and even whistling in the ears, which some people mistakenly perceive as symptoms of hypertension, indicate the presence of other pathologies, he said.

The cardiologist also added that even a non-critical deviation from the norm (normal blood pressure is considered to be 120 for systolic and 80 for diastolic) increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Moreover, hypertension increases the likelihood of aneurysms – swelling of blood vessels resulting in thinning of their walls. Problems with vision and kidneys may also occur.

According to the doctor, blood pressure measurements should be recorded regularly and any changes noted. The cardiologist advised not to resort to drug therapy immediately after identifying hypertension. He recommended making some lifestyle changes, such as increasing the proportion of fruits and vegetables in the diet, consuming less salt and maintaining an active lifestyle. This will help lower your blood pressure naturally.
