Record snowfall and reduced visibility on the roads are expected in Moscow in the coming days due to the arrival of North Atlantic hurricane Olga. The newspaper reported this “News”.
Journalists noted that heavy snowfall had already been observed in the Russian capital on February 6. It was a harbinger of the hurricane “Olga”, which will soon cover the populated area.
As Evgeny Tishkovets, the leading expert of the Phobos meteorological center, said, the hurricane will reach Moscow on February 7 and will last at least a day. In this context, heavy snowfall is expected in the city. Experts do not exclude that the capital will receive about a quarter of the monthly rainfall norm.
“According to weather forecasters, visibility in the city will drop to 500 meters,” the material says.
Meteorologists also assume that the weather record set on February 7, 1995 in Moscow will be broken. While 9.6 mm of precipitation fell in the Russian capital that day, up to 12 mm of precipitation is now expected.
In this context, city residents were warned that the height of the snowdrifts would increase by 7-10 cm, while experts predicted that the wind would increase up to 15 m/s.
Tishkovets pointed out that the atmospheric pressure in Moscow has decreased. This figure will be between 717 and 721 mm Hg. Art. The norm is 748 mm Hg. Art., the expert stated.
Previously residents of the Moscow region warned about the upcoming 20-degree frosts.
