Tingling in the fingers may be a symptom of ulnar nerve compression. It occurs due to the need to keep the arm bent at the elbow joint for a long time. British therapist Martin Skerr talks about this said Daily Mail edition.
The doctor said that compression of the ulnar nerve is also known as ulnar neuropathy. Unpleasant sensations such as tingling in the fingers and numbness in the hands occur as a result of compression of the ulnar nerve, which extends from the arm to the shoulder, ring finger and little fingers.
Typically, the place of compression is in the elbow area – the ulnar nerve passes through a depression next to the medial epicondyle of the humerus. When the elbow is bent, the nerve is tense. This may cause it to become irritated.
Prolonged use of the elbow while sitting, sleeping on the side with the arm bent under the pillow, working on a computer, active cycling, or using tools for repair can cause ulnar neuropathy. Skerr noted that temporary sensory loss is safe for health and does not cause a decrease in limb mobility. However, the doctor does not recommend keeping your elbows bent for a long time. This can cause swelling and pain.
