Painful connection to the same device can be the reason for refusing to repair a damaged device. Russians attribute their constant use of gadgets to the busy pace of life (25%), the fear of missing something important (22%) and the need to follow all the news (20%). This is shown by a study by Renaissance Insurance Group (MOEX: RENI) and the company Citylink, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.
Almost half of Russians (45%) had to buy new equipment due to their own carelessness. One in five (19%) admitted this was not the first time this had happened to them. Interestingly, the majority of respondents (68%) consider protecting their devices even before a failure occurs. Typically, 45% purchase protective film or glass, 19% choose a shockproof case, and 3% take out an insurance policy.
“In 2023, the most common causes of claims under equipment insurance policies are screen cracks or other mechanical damage; these account for 41% of all cases, as well as manufacturer defects (54.7%). Interestingly, the most common cases include liquid damage (4%) and damage from voltage fluctuations (0.13%),” commented Artem Iskra, director of the Retail Insurance Underwriting Department at Rönesans Sigorta.
The majority of respondents (66%) noticed symptoms of nomophobia (reluctance to part with their favorite device) even in the event of a serious malfunction. According to them, this will not interfere with operation and the damage can always be covered with a cover. Because of this reliance on technology, Russians began to notice bad habits. 62% leave their smartphones charging all night. A third of respondents (36%) are accustomed to eating only while watching videos on a tablet or laptop, and almost the same number (32%) carry their devices with them to the toilet.
One in three people (40%) want to get rid of such addictions, but 19% admit that it is not that easy. As a rule, the reason for the impossibility of rejecting them lies in the fast and stressful pace of life (25%), the fear of missing something important in work and family conversations (22%), the need to keep abreast of all developments. It increases the desire to constantly follow news (20%) and publications on social networks (18%).
