A five-storey building on Rostov-on-Don’s Narimanov Street, where a wall had partially collapsed the day before, was collapsing heavily and creaking could be heard at night. Local resident Olga, whose parents, sister and family live in a dilapidated house, told socialbites.ca about this. The woman noted that her parents’ inner wall had previously collapsed due to pressure. According to Olga, her relatives are now staying with her; During the evacuation, they only managed to dress the child and take the cat with them.

“The wall of the first floor collapsed. However, this is not the first time this has happened, but at least the third time in different places. My parents’ inner wall collapsed due to pressure. The management company laid and painted the wall. The house sinks a lot and squeaks can be heard at night. Our parents live with my sister and her husband, who has two children. They did not take my things, they only dressed the child, took the cat, but the Ministry of Emergencies does not let me in. “They waited until 12 at night and wanted to get the documents,” he said.

Olga noted that the 5-storey building has been in this situation for 10 years. According to him, when the house was declared unsafe, residents were asked to evacuate on their own.

“The house has been like this for 10 years, there were management companies, they stole the budget and disappeared, only the bills keep coming. We came to visit, at their entrance for a week hot water was gushing from the wall, flowing from the heating pipe and there was nowhere to complain. The house was initially temporary for factory workers. It has been declared unsafe for three years. They said there was no housing in the fund. They gave the residents time to move out on their own and demolish the house. “The time has expired, the administration bought the land for the needs of the city,” he said.

On the evening of January 27, the wall of a five-storey building on Narimanov Street in Rostov-on-Don collapsed. The building’s natural gas connection was cut off and 95 people were evacuated from the building. Later, the city’s mayor, Alexey Logvinenko, announced the establishment of temporary shelter centers for residents. He noted that they would then be offered flexible housing. According to Logvinenko, in 2020 this house was declared unsafe and could be demolished. A state of emergency was declared in Rostov-on-Don in the area of the collapse of the wall of a five-storey building.

On January 28, regional governor Vasily Golubev reported that one of the entrances to the emergency building had collapsed. The head of the Rostov region added that there were no casualties as a result of the collapse because residents were resettled the day before.

Earlier, architect Sokolov warned against the reconstruction of five-storey buildings.
