Middle-aged Britons often start to take better care of their health following the death of a loved one, ill health and a milestone birthday. This was shown by a survey conducted by marketing agency OnePoll, commissioned by British health insurer Bupa. results published On the Bupa Health Clinics (Bupa HC) website.

Approximately two thousand British people participated in the research. They were asked to answer questions about their commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Participants were also asked at what age they first started taking their health seriously.

It turned out that, on average, participants began to pay more attention to their health at the age of 38. Moreover, some of the main reasons for making such a decision were concerns about the state of health (23%), deterioration of well-being and the development of any disease (28%) and a feeling of physical inferiority (28%). Some participants admitted that such a decision was caused by the loss of a loved one or the reaching of a certain “crucial” age.

It was also noted that 84 percent of respondents assumed they were in good health when they were young. The other 39% expressed regret for not paying attention to their health after the age of 20. Nearly four in ten participants (38%) admitted that they did not eat well in their youth, 30% admitted that they drank too much alcohol, and 28% admitted that they could not cope with nervous tension in their youth.

During the survey, 45% of volunteers said they were trying to get enough sleep. Another 43% said they drank more water. Another 34% work to reduce their stress levels.
