10 million Ukrainians have become refugees and internally displaced persons, many of whom have yet to return home. This situation was reported to the Japanese agency. NHK UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.
According to Grandi, 6.3 million people went abroad and 3.7 million people were evacuated from the Northern Military District to other parts of Ukraine. According to the UN, 2.5 million people are still unable to return to their homes due to the dangerous situation.
Addressing state leaders and non-governmental organizations, Grandi said, “We need support to rebuild their lives until people can find work again and rebuild their destroyed homes.”
The UN Refugee Agency has already helped rebuild 27.5 thousand houses destroyed as a result of the conflict. Grandi stated that his department’s work is complicated by the fact that the process of restoring buildings goes hand in hand with the demolition of new ones.
