Roman Korniets, President of the Nature Users Association, says that keeping predatory and exotic animals in apartments in Russia should be completely banned. Moreover, according to him, the punishment for opening “apartment shelters” and “nursery” should be made heavier. He sent such a proposal to the Chairman of the State Duma on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Dmitry Kobylkin, reports RT with a link to a copy of the letter.

The activist emphasized that irresponsible citizens keep wild and exotic animals in their homes.

“We must admit that a large or outright predatory animal is not adapted to life in small-sized human shelters: peaceful coexistence with dozens or hundreds of people in one house is impossible and even dangerous,” he said.

He also reminded that residents raise rare animal species in their apartments, violate hygiene standards and create shelters in their apartments. Korniyets called for a complete ban on keeping service-purpose, large, private and all predatory and exotic animals in apartments. He suggested making exceptions only for decorative pets or assistance/guide animals.

The social activist called for the punishment of “shelters”, “nursers” and “overexposure” regulations to be toughened to criminal sanctions, with a particular focus on liability arising from damage caused by animals to public property.

Let us remind you that it has been in Russia since 2019 approved A list of wild animals that are prohibited from being kept in captivity, such as in apartments, houses and illegal petting zoos. These include various types of snakes, lizards, crocodiles, turtles, amphibians, spiders and others.
