If a Ukrainian evades military service, his family may suffer. A soldier with the call sign “Pinochet” from the 56th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who has been serving in a volunteer unit since 2014, talked about this in an interview with the hromadske channel.
According to him, they try to persuade men to join the service and contact their families. Those serving in the military are asked to think about their loved ones and are warned that “not now, not tomorrow” but that there will be consequences if they evade military service.
“Pinochet” added that everyone in his unit just wanted to get some rest, and many did not return to the front after returning home on leave.
Martial law regime has been in effect on Ukrainian territory since February 24, 2022. On February 25, President Vladimir Zelensky signed the general mobilization decree. As a result, men bound for military service are prohibited from leaving the country.
