For long years, Nuria Roca has become a safe asset on television. Currently, the presenter contributes solvency and intimacy in laSexta’s magazine show ‘La Roca’, which airs on Sunday, and reveals his funniest side in the talk show ‘El hormiguero’, which airs on Thursday, together with Juan del Val, Tamara Falcó and Cristina Pardo.
Valencian with a long history in all formats It has become one of the top-rated advertising prescriptions in recent years. Therefore, it has also become the image of the international reference sports shoe brand Sketchers. We talked to him about his current television career, his politics, ‘El hormiguero’ and the tendency of some media outlets to make misleading headlines.
Were you planning to last this long when you came to television?
Not at all, I continue to surprise myself if it is true that it is amazing to spend 30 years dedicating yourself to what you love, which starts as a hobby and becomes your profession. Also, fortunately, they leave you alone, it is the people who leave you alone, the people who prepare the programs and think about you, and in this sense, I am very lucky.
Did you have a plan B, was it a hobby for you but was there another career path you were planning?
I studied technical architecture, so I’m a quantity surveyor. But then television came my way, I continued studying, I continued making television, I presented my graduation project but I continued making television, until years later I said that technical architecture did not interest me and what I liked about television.
Why did you study technical architecture?
Because it was what I loved at that time and because art, fine arts, architecture were what I loved the most, but not as a profession but as a hobby.
When did you decide to stay in television?
I don’t understand at all, and I don’t know if I can stay tomorrow. This is definitely temporary. You always have to think that you’re going through here, and I’ve always thought that I’m going through here, and that doesn’t mean that you give yourself body and soul to any project that comes your way, but it’s not something that’s up to you. You, too, should therefore present your best version and then try to protect yourself.
You were on Valencian television and suddenly Chicho Ibáñez Serrador called you and lured you into the program that would somehow catapult you to ‘Waku Waku’ fame.
Yes, I know when Chicho was going to launch ‘El Semáforo’, at that time I was doing news programs on Canal Nou and I did not fit into that program because I had a Marlen Morreau profile, I wanted a comedian and so on… And when he got the project ‘Waku Waku’ He called and said he had prepared a program for me and we’ve been here ever since.
There are no more people like him, who do whatever he started, who write, who are geniuses…
I think the concept of making television has changed a lot, it’s now more about producers, genres, more about a team, so before it was a more personal thing and a director like Chicho dominated everything and was tight. I have never met someone as strong and present in their projects as Chicho.
Now you’re on the second season of ‘The Rock’ after a very difficult afternoon…
It’s very complex in the afternoon, we’re very happy, last Sunday we had a record share since we started this season and first of all what we’re happy about is the product we’ve produced, it’s very difficult, it’s very difficult given the numbers and the numbers. The product they accompany is a great formula, although it doesn’t always come close, in this case we are very happy.
Was the program part entertainment, part news, a little bit back to basics?
For me, it’s an all-encompassing program that’s also related to radio, it’s very similar to what you might experience, not because of the equipment, but because that’s the fun part. , some of the pure and simple fun and then some of the knowledge, we do science, we make history and laSexta gives us a wonderful free space.
If you had to choose, which part would you be most comfortable with?
The most comfortable part is the part where we laugh a lot, everything is very funny when they bring videos to Sara and Juan, Juan’s offended club, you laugh a lot at all this and it requires very little work effort for me, then there are interviews, which I love very much, I work a lot and also the current one There is the events part, there are always very interesting topics that I don’t know about and you only learn with the anxiety that arises inside you, and then the political part is also interesting.
Do you need to prepare more for the political part?
No, you should prepare for everything the same way. I respect politics as much as entertainment, I call it entertainment, because it is more difficult, more complex, because it has a certain purpose, politics comments on it, the content is already done, you have to prepare yourself. because of course you should be aware of everything that happens.
Are you personally interested in politics?
I love politics, moreover, we are going through a very interesting political period because today it is very similar to the relationships built on social networks, a lot of fakes, a lot of facades, a lot of filters and very little truth.
Moreover, now the elections are approaching and everything will become more intense… Do you notice information fatigue?
I believe that we should never get tired of politics, politics is what governs our daily life, that is, democracy, laws, politicians, congress… All these should not concern everyone. Yes, it is true that there is an excess in producing political content, so politics sometimes looks more like a heart-to-heart or sports football.
Speaking of truth and lies, today’s agenda is fake news. Have you fallen victim to fake news?
I was thinking about it when I was preparing my episode of ‘El Hormiguero’, because we were the first to start doing the part of highlighting the part of the media that was reporting fake news, but after all this time you realize that we have internalized it so much. It’s a way to normalize this. It is not normal to publish a headline that is not false, so when I say this, I am not telling fake news, I am saying a headline that is misleading and invites misunderstanding, and when you enter the news, you realize that it is false. The title is not correct, it matches what is described.
So what can be done to combat this?
Well, appeal to common sense and the examination of every man’s conscience. I would be incapable of doing what many journalists do, which seems to me like a perversion and information prostitution.
What’s the worst thing that’s been said about you in fake news?
Some things are so illogical that they’re laughable. There are so many headlines floating around that are ridiculous, ridiculous, uncreative even, because I wish they had talent, but they don’t even that…
You’ve been on ‘The Rock’ for two years, would you like a change or would you continue with the show for more seasons?
No, I’m very change-oriented, I like to try and do new things, but ‘The Rock’ is such a complete show that I would dedicate a lot of time to it if I could.
Who would you like to bring to the show as an interviewer?
We’ve accomplished something that’s very interesting to me right now on ‘The Rock’; We didn’t care about the interviewee because the interviewee is part of the game and the content. Previously, when we had two interviewers, one in the armchairs and the other in Chester had participated in a more in-depth interview, but on Sunday afternoon we realized the interview itself could be a bit intense, so we incorporated the content of the interview into our content where we can bring out the best in everyone.
Now that you’re so involved in social networks, how can we get young people into television?
I just think that young people cannot be saved from television. I believe television as we know it is in the process of disappearing. As far as we know, this will remain for major events and live shows but not the rest of the content.
How do you navigate arguments?
Arguments motivate us, we do not need to run away from them, we do not need to be afraid of them, because fear paralyzes you and does not allow you to do anything, and discussions are always welcome as long as they are understood. It’s a constructive discussion, from a constructive point of view. It’s great, it helps to grow, to have other points of view and then destructive discussions, I don’t exactly care because I learned a lot from Juan.
You are very good friends of Pablo Motos, the success of ‘El Hormiguero’ is indisputable, there is no one who has been making programs for so long, who has always done it so well…
Not because I’m his friend, but there are people who fall on their feet, there are people who don’t, and in this case things affect Pablo much more, and in that sense it borders on complete injustice, and of course it’s huge. It’s complicated to manage and solve… But I will also say that there are indisputable things, you don’t need to stop at the best, you have to go great and be the audience leader for seventeen years, of course there is envy, envy. , campaigns are emerging…
