US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said she believes the attacks on Yemen are proportionate and necessary. This was reported by RIA News.
“As you have just heard from my British colleague, these strikes were necessary and proportionate. These were in accordance with international law and exercised the United States’ inherent right of self-defense as reflected in Article 51 of the UN Charter. And they were taken only after it became clear that non-military options were insufficient to eliminate the threat,” Thomas-Greenfield said.
He expressed Washington’s point of view at the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, convened at the request of Russia, regarding the US and UK attacks on Yemen.
Formerly Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya statedHe said the attacks on Yemen were a clear violation of the UN Charter.
As Nebenzya points out, the attacks on Yemen have nothing to do with the right to self-defense, as Article 51 of the UN Charter cannot be applied to the situation regarding commercial ships.
Previously Nebenzya aforementionedIt was stated that the USA and the UK “immediately violated” the organization’s Security Council (SC) resolution regarding the Red Sea.
