The issue of organizing school meals should be resolved at the state level, says Olga Letkova, head of the Union of Parents’ Committees and Societies. According to him, today’s system is structured in such a way that schools choose organizations that will provide the lowest priced food, and as a result, children consume canned food, which is unhealthy for them.

“Today, the tender law is structured in such a way that the most profitable organization is selected. Apparently we save on food for schoolchildren and children – explained Letkova speaks to NSN. — The main complaint of parents is that the food is canned; suppliers prepare it 10 days in advance. Food is simply heated; The school itself does not cook.”

The social activist added that feeding children this way every day is harmful and fresh food is needed. According to him, it is wrong to entrust this area only to parents because in this case, conflicts will begin due to different tastes. The expert called for creating working groups at every school level with the participation of parents and leaving control to the state.

“If the state does not protect this region, poisonings, conflicts, etc. will occur again,” he said.

Letkova added that there are fewer questions about school meals in general today. But, according to him, parents are concerned that the topic is closed because they do not know what their children eat in schools and cannot ask them to take into account health problems (for example, a child’s allergies) when drawing up a diet.

Let us remind you that next week it is planned to submit to the State Duma a bill on the right of parent committees to choose suppliers for school meals.

Previously Russian senators offered Visit schools and try the food in the canteens.
