Recently, whooping cough has been diagnosed not only in children but also in adults. In an interview about this Tsargrad.tv said general practitioner Denis Prokofiev. According to him, the main symptom of the disease is a paroxysmal barking cough that does not go away for a long time.
He emphasized that the most important thing is to make a timely diagnosis. If all possible causes of cough have been ruled out, you should get tested for whooping cough as soon as possible.
“This is a blood test. And often a high level of immunoglobulin is detected, whooping cough is diagnosed and treated. In general, with proper treatment, this diagnosis is not fatal and, in general, if the diagnosis is correct, it can be treated absolutely calmly,” noted the doctor.
He added that whooping cough rarely causes complicated (mixed) bacterial infection, but can lead to respiratory spasm if the disease is left untreated.
According to Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova, only a few dozen cases of whooping cough have been detected in Russia in 2023. According to him, this infection is most severe in babies in the first months of life. To combat this disease, some countries use vaccination using the “cocoon” method, in which the entire environment of the newborn is vaccinated.
Popova reminded that in the Russian Federation, the vaccine against whooping cough is included in the national vaccination calendar, and if parents comply with it, outbreaks of infection can be prevented.
