Municipal elections in Israel postponed again due to war
Municipal elections in Israel have been postponed, this time to February 27, 2024, in the hope that most of the soldiers fighting in the Gaza Strip can join the war against the Islamist group Hamas.
“We normally do not hold elections in wartime, but these elections were planned,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the Government meeting where it was agreed to postpone the appointment once again regarding the elections held this Sunday. It was planned in October last year, when the war began.
According to a statement from his office, Netanyahu said the elections had already been postponed at the end of January, but warned that “it is very difficult to postpone them for a very long time.”
