He noted that the agreement regarding the location of the base was signed on March 16, 1995. As the diplomat stated, this agreement is based on the national interests of Russia and Armenia. He stated that according to Article 26 of this agreement, the duration of stay of Russian military personnel in this country is 49 years, and then the agreement was automatically extended for another five years.
Galuzin emphasized that Russian soldiers and officers continue to effectively ensure peace and security not only in Armenia but also stability throughout the South Caucasus.
“We consider any discussion of our military presence in the republic to be harmful and inappropriate,” he added.
