Only half of Russians are confident they can distinguish signs of stroke from drunkenness

Almost half of the Russians surveyed have difficulty identifying the symptoms of a stroke: 49% of respondents believe that they cannot distinguish a stroke attack from a passer-by’s state of alcohol intoxication. This is shown by a study conducted by the company Nutricia, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.

At the same time, a third of respondents (33%) assumed that they had sufficient knowledge and could identify a stroke using the information in the information booklets. Another 18% of the participants said that they could recognize a stroke because they encountered it in their environment.

More than half of Russians (53%) are ready to help a person with stroke symptoms but do not know how. 23% of those surveyed are ready to help but would want passersby to participate as well. 19% are ready to help with stroke and know exactly what to do. Almost 3% of Russians admitted that they were not ready or afraid to take responsibility, while about 2% of Russians admitted that they would help a person only if they had time.

Almost every second of the Russians surveyed imagine that they might have a stroke. At the same time, most (30%) do not know how to recover, and only 15% of respondents know how to act if they suspect signs of a stroke. One in five Russians have either never thought about the possibility of having a stroke (26%) or are afraid to even imagine it (24%). And only 5% of those surveyed believe they won’t have a stroke.

When it comes to the consequences of a stroke, more than half of respondents (52%) believe that immediate first aid will help prevent injuries after a stroke. 27% of Russians expect to find all the necessary information only when they need it. Almost one in ten people believe that disability after a stroke is inevitable. And 6% think their life will end after a stroke. Only 7% of respondents believe they know everything about recovery.
