Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the law abolishing visa advantages for some European citizens. The text of the document was published on the official website portal legal information.
The law applies to citizens of the European Union as a whole, as well as citizens of Denmark, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. According to the document, the visa fee will now have to be paid to previously exempt categories of citizens: close relatives of Russian citizens, school and university students coming for education, scientists, athletes, cultural figures, as well as truck drivers, businessmen and those wishing to visit funerals in Russia.
Additionally, the amount of the visa fee, which was previously €35, will also change. Now Europeans will have to pay between $50 and $300, depending on the urgency and frequency of the visa issued.
At the Russian Foreign Ministry in November saidIt is stated that approximately 100 thousand European Union citizens will receive a Russian visa in 2023.
