Experts from Tel Aviv University have developed a new way to treat HIV using genetically modified B-lymphocytes. They talked about it in a magazine article. Nature Biotechnology.

With the help of CRISPR/Cas9 genetic editing, scientists were able to produce antibodies against HIV by modifying B-lymphocytes, which play an important role in production. Experiments on mice have shown that altered B-lymphocytes circulating in the bloodstream successfully regenerate the necessary antibodies.

We have developed an innovative treatment that can defeat the virus with a single injection. This makes it possible to significantly improve the condition of the patients,” he said.

Scientists hope that their development will soon create an effective cure for HIV and other infections. Additionally, development could form the basis of new treatments for certain types of cancer.
