Hypothermia from wet feet can lead to decreased immunity, which can lead to various heart diseases. SM-Clinic cardiologist Anastasia Fomicheva told socialbites.ca about this.

“Of course, wet feet alone cannot cause heart problems. Because the main cause of the disease is a viral or bacterial infection. However, with hypothermia, a decrease in immunity may occur, with which the same infection enters the body, as a result of which, for example, infective endocarditis may develop. “These are inflammatory diseases of the endocardium (inner lining of the heart) caused by the accumulation of microorganisms in the heart valves,” Fomicheva said.

Viral myocarditis or inflammatory cardiomyopathy can also occur, he said. Penetrating into the body, the viral agent damages cardiomyocytes (heart muscle cells), a local inflammatory reaction occurs and causes the initiation of autoimmune processes.

“Wet feet and cracks in the skin are entry points for fungal infections, which can cause an inflammatory reaction of the myocardium. Hypothermia of the legs, vascular spasm can aggravate the course of chronic arterial or venous insufficiency in the legs and provoke edema syndrome. To avoid such complications in the body, take care of yourself and keep your feet warm hold on,” added the cardiologist.

Previously cardiologist in the name signs of impending heart attack.
