Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala declared national mourning due to the armed attack at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in the center of Prague. This is reported by the local portal iDNES.cz.
Documents show that the head of government chose December 23 as a day of mourning for the victims of the shooting at the university in the capital. The authors of the publication announced that the relevant decision was taken at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers of the republic.
Journalists also emphasized that the country’s legislation does not impose an obligation on citizens to mourn. In such a situation, government institutions lower the flag, but other forms of mourning are recommended.
21 December at Charles University Faculty of Philosophy dead armed attack initiated by one of the students. The young man brought a gun to the territory of the educational institution and opened fire on people nearby.
According to the latest information, 39 people were injured as a result of the attack. How clarified Czech police chief Martin Vondrashek said 14 of the victims could not be saved.
