American neuroscientist and psychiatrist Arash Javanbakht said The talk is that abdominal discomfort during stress is associated with activation of the sympathetic nervous system, which slows intestinal function and reduces blood flow to the stomach.

The expert said that neurons in the sympathetic nervous system are distributed throughout the body, but the largest number of neurons are concentrated in places such as the heart, lungs and intestines. These neurons stimulate the adrenal glands to produce various hormones, including adrenaline. It acts as a “pedal” to increase reaction speed and energy expenditure, increase heart rate and increase blood pressure.

To supply blood to tense muscles, the sympathetic nervous system increases the speed and strength of heart contractions. Therefore, a person under stress may feel their heart beating rapidly. At the same time, blood “separates” from the organs of the gastrointestinal tract and digestion slows down, as the body tries to preserve more oxygen for the heart and brain. Such changes can cause discomfort in the abdominal area.
