Russian healthcare workers most often encounter problems with food and alcohol poisoning in patients during the New Year holidays, as well as exacerbations of chronic diseases. This was shown by a survey among doctors conducted by Aktion Medicine, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.
The most common problem for patients during the New Year holidays is poisoning (food or alcohol), reported by 51% of doctors surveyed. Moreover, more often than others, healthcare workers – about 51% – face cases of exacerbation of chronic diseases (diabetes, liver disease and other diseases).
ACS and “holiday heart” (heart attacks, exacerbations of coronary artery disease, and heart problems in people who did not have such problems before but occur due to excessive alcohol consumption) are observed by approximately 17% of healthcare professionals surveyed.
Another 38% of doctors encounter injuries and frostbite in patients, while 15% deal with burns and foreign objects in the eye.
In my experience, neither doctors nor nurses want to work during the New Year holidays. While almost 70% of doctors answered this question negatively, approximately 60% of nurses gave a similar answer.
