Peter Worwell, professor at the Department of Gastroenterology at the University of Manchester (UK), said drinking milk is recommended to improve heartburn health. In this respect reports Daily mail.
The doctor explained that heartburn medications contain sodium alginate and potassium bicarbonate, substances that, when swallowed, coat the esophagus and neutralize the effect of hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is part of gastric juice, under the influence of which food breaks down. The gastroenterologist noted that drinking milk can also temporarily relieve the symptom of heartburn, as this product can partially neutralize the acid.
However, severe pain or burning after eating may require immediate medical attention. It is also better to consult a specialist if heartburn occurs frequently and the discomfort lasts more than two to three weeks.
Worwell added that the main triggers for heartburn are fatty foods like fried meat and potatoes, butter and fast food. Excessive consumption of such foods can lead to a slowdown of the digestive process and increased pressure in the stomach, which causes the stomach contents to regurgitate into the esophagus. For this reason, the person feels a burning sensation in the chest area.
Former nutritionist said about possible causes of constant hunger.
