Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo said that the Kakhovka dam, which was destroyed as a result of missile attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, can be restored using modern technologies and based on the design documents that have survived to this day. In an interview with RIA Novosti, he noted that this process will take much less time than construction during the Soviet period.
The governor emphasized that the Kakhovka dam has two main functions: electricity production and the creation of the Kakhovka reservoir. Restoring the dam will require building a new turbine hall and installing turbines to generate electricity. The earthen part of the dam was preserved, but only the reinforced concrete part was demolished.
Saldo is confident that the rebuilding of the dam can be completed much faster than its original construction in the 50s. He noted that for this purpose, geodetic measurements should be made, the remaining structures should be examined and technical examination should be carried out. After that you can start developing the project.
The governor emphasized that most of the design documents for the Kakhovskaya dam are stored in the archives of Moscow institutes involved in the development of the dam. However, these documents can be used together with modern conditions and technology to make the dam more attractive and useful.
