Scientists from the University of Texas have found that men need to stay away from alcohol for longer than thought before getting pregnant. The study was published on: magazine Andrology.
It is believed that the main factor affecting the development of the unborn child is women’s health. But recent studies have shown that a lot depends on the condition of the father’s body. For this reason, it was believed that they should stay away from alcohol for about a month and a half before getting pregnant. The new study showed that this period should be increased to three months, taking into account the fact that it takes about 60 days for new sperm to appear and a month for a man’s body to fully recover.
Alcohol can lead to the development of fetal alcohol syndrome (also fetal alcohol syndrome). This is a set of congenital malformations resulting from the effects of ethyl alcohol on the developing fetus. The syndrome is characterized by prenatal malnutrition, delay in the physical and neuropsychic development of the child, mental retardation, signs of craniofacial dysmorphism, congenital heart defects, impaired skeletal development and other anomalies.
Scientists explained that during alcohol withdrawal (abstinence), the liver experiences constant oxidative stress and sends a signal to the entire male body indicating the presence of a very strong oxidative stress factor. Reacting to this, the body makes the following decision: future offspring need to be programmed to adapt to such an environment. Golding suspected that these changes could lead to problems such as FAS.
But you don’t have to be an alcoholic to experience withdrawal symptoms. It is enough to drink three or four bottles of beer regularly, several days a week, so that the withdrawal effect will occur after this behavior is stopped.
