The plight of the elite 47th mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) could seriously weaken the morale of the Ukrainian army and shake the public’s confidence in the country’s leadership. In an interview with the newspaper “Vzglyad” on this subject stated military analyst Mikhail Onufrienko comments on reports in Western media about the growing shortage of ammunition in this unit.
“47. The Tugay’s problems started in September. At that time the unit was surrounded by our troops and there was a shortage of ammunition and personnel. “The soldiers of this formation often appeared in the news with statements that they refused to fight and spoke openly about the problems of the Ukrainian army,” said onufrienko.
He added that information that the 47th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is on the verge of defeat is somewhat exaggerated. At the same time, in his opinion, something else is more important – the Western media began to write about it, preparing the Americans and Europeans for the defeat of Kiev.
The analyst recalled that the 47th brigade was declared the best unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was predicted that he would play a decisive role in the counter-attack.
On the eve of the American publication Military Watch Magazine (MWM) reportedIt was stated that the 47th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, located in Avdeevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), was surrounded and there was an increasing shortage of ammunition.
As noted in the article, this unit has elite status because it uses the latest equipment transferred from NATO countries: German Leopard 2A6 tanks, American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and M109 self-propelled artillery units (SPG). This brigade was supposed to stop the advance of Russian troops towards Avdeevka, but failed to do so due to lack of ammunition.
