The exact amount of tangerine you can consume per day depends on your individual sensitivity and is determined empirically. Gastroenterologist Yana Kartaeva from the BestDoctor group of companies told socialbites.ca about this.

“In medicine, there is no strict quantitative consumption norm for any type of fruit, but there are recommendations for fiber consumption in general. It is recommended to consume at least 400 g of fruits and vegetables or 5-6 portions per day. Some national nutrition guidelines specify 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit per day. Of course, we strive for our diet to be as diverse as possible, but any deviations from the recommendations, especially short-term ones, are unlikely to cause serious harm to health. Therefore, even if the entire recommended 400 grams is represented only by tangerines, you can meet this norm as you wish,” he explained.

According to the doctor, everyone will have their own “norm”, taking into account individual health characteristics – someone can eat six fruits at a time, while for others even half a tangerine can cause discomfort.

“After consuming tangerines, like all representatives of the citrus group, either unpleasant symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract (heartburn, abdominal pain, bloating) or a pseudo-allergic reaction in the form of rash and itching on the skin may occur. Both are mostly dose dependent and do not carry serious health consequences. If you have a good tolerance for these fruits, eat and enjoy. “If you notice a connection between symptoms and consumption of tangerines, do not immediately eliminate them from your diet, but try to find the optimal amount,” the doctor concluded.
