In Russia, a light sniper and assault rifle with a replaceable caliber 308 win (7,62 x 51) is being created, the first prototypes will be ready in February-March 2024 next year. This was reported by RIA News Referring to Vladislav Lobaev, founder of the Lobaev Arms developer company.
This rifle should replace Smersh and Counter. As Lobaev noted, the main difference between the new rifle and the mentioned ones will be in the weight and size characteristics of the machine gun. Its weight will be 3.6 kg. Another key feature of this weapon will be the ability to install interchangeable cylinders, thanks to which it can work as a machine gun and sniper rifle.
Production of all parts will take place at Lobaev Arms. “The equipment will also be replaced by more reliable equipment: gas piston automatic equipment similar to the HK 417 and FN.”
According to him, the created Russian rifle will be a kilogram lighter than foreign counterparts, and the accuracy of fire will be preserved.
The expected release of the first batches for trial purposes is planned for February-March 2024, the company’s founder added.
