Ireland approves reduction in aid to refugees from Ukraine

Irish authorities have decided to reduce weekly payments to refugees from Ukraine by more than fivefold. The benefit will now be €38.8 instead of €220, the television and radio company reported RTE.

Additionally, the government decided to limit the period of providing public housing to refugees to 90 days.

“The government agreed to reduce the amount of social assistance and limit the provision of public housing to newly arrived refugees from Ukraine to 90 days,” the broadcaster said in a statement.

The Irish Cabinet has stated that the relevant proposals will be presented to a government committee for discussion and will then be presented to the country’s Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and a number of department heads.

According to RTE, there will be no reduction in benefits for families with children living in Irish public institutions; benefits will still be 140 Euros.
