“I dreamed of this a long time ago but I didn’t want to believe it, I thought they would be caught sooner,” complains David’s mother, Lorena, as she faces an OPEN CASE. three years ago
“Your brother hasn’t arrived, has he? If he doesn’t arrive by eleven, we’ll call the police.” He told this newspaper that he spoke with Lorena’s daughter, Carolina. They were both looking for the eldest of their children, they had three children. They were walking on the street in Laguna de Duero (Valladolid), David had not returned home. After singing happy birthday to his sister the night before, the young man nervously walked out the door and got dressed: “I have to go out, mom.”. Hours passed and no news was heard from him.
They gave themselves time by saying, “We called the police at eleven o’clock.” They heard from him five minutes after he hung up the phone on their daughter. “My daughter sent me a photo that circulated on WhatsApp and was picked up by a group: they found a child lying by the lake. “His jacket, his tracksuit and his face… He was lying on the ground; he was my son.”
“I have to go down”
Why did you leave home? Nobody knows. Had he met anyone? No answer. “I remember it would be around 1 a.m. after he sang his birthday song to his sister,” she told OPEN CASE, “and he told me he had to come downstairs. I told him not to come down, to go to bed and it would pass. And he told me no, no, I had to come down.. I went downstairs after him because I saw him very nervous. He wasn’t after anything but he was gone“. Lorena returned home, “I was writing to him, he did not answer me. I looked for him, but I couldn’t get him…” He went back to look for her. “I set out again around two in the morning. I looked around. I couldn’t find it either. “I kept calling, texting… and then there came a moment when his cell phone rang.”
Dawn broke and Lorena returned to the street, “I just went to get some cake.” She was sure that her son would return healthy. Did not come. Taking the opportunity, he returned to possible areas along the road and continued searching, but there was no trace. “So I called his sister and we gave the margin at 11 o’clock. That’s when we received the photo from WhatsApp.”.
“His tracksuit, his jacket… We’ll never forget that,” Lorena recreates. After seeing the image, they went to the Civil Guard. They didn’t know if he was alive or not. An agent asked them to calm down. “He told me not to worry, that the child they found was a minor, 15-16 years old… I told them: ‘This body does not belong to a minor; He is 18 years old, my son, and his name is David.” He handed over the young man’s documents. It was approved. It was indeed David.

His body was found the same morning. His mother called, beat him, called him. Around 7.30 in the morning, a man wandering around the sports center saw him. “She never knew who he was, and I didn’t talk to her,” Lorena says.
He later said that the neighbor thought the young man was unconscious. He called the Civil Guard, who arrived with the medical team. They cordoned off the area. David had multiple wounds and was wearing only one shoe. (the other appeared five meters away from him). I didn’t have any documents. Just a lighter and a switched off phone. They tried to resuscitate him, but he had been lifeless for several hours. He was killed just a hundred meters from the house.
David woke up with blows. “The one who killed him had two stab wounds on his side, apart from the one with a head.” Lorena took a deep breath to continue one year ago. It still hurts today. “I didn’t have to see the body. “I don’t know how it happened, but they told me he had bruises and defensive wounds, my son defended himself.”
“Smiling, humorous, compassionate, hard-working…”. Everyone in Laguna remembers him. “We had a bar and people said he was a kid who was always smiling at everyone,” his mother says. His mother has been fighting for more than three years to get justice, find the culprit and put David to rest. Having trust weakens the presence of witnesses.
