Ukrainian officials hope to receive 150 combat aircraft from Western partners, which will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) to replace Soviet-made equipment. This was announced by the representative of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, on the broadcast of the Rada TV channel.
“We are talking about 150” [самолетах] plus training ones – this is the final result in which we will completely replace the Soviet equipment fleet,” the speaker said when answering the question of how many aircraft the Ukrainian Air Force could receive from Western countries.
According to Ignat, the main combat aircraft that the Ukrainian Armed Forces expect to receive is the American F-16 fighter jet.
The representative of the Ukrainian Air Force also noted that Kiev is holding consultations with Stockholm on the transfer of Swedish JAS 39 fighter jets.
Before that, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustam Umerov stated About negotiations on the transfer of Western aircraft to the Ukrainian Air Force. According to him, the delivery of F-16 fighter jets is in the short term.
Umerov announced that not only American F-16s but also other aircraft were being discussed for the supply of the Ukrainian Air Force.
