The US-Sweden Military Cooperation Agreement gives the US military the right and ability to use 17 Swedish bases, installations and military sites. This is stated in documentIt was published on the kingdom’s government website.
These military bases are located throughout the country: Kiruna, Östersund and Luleå in the north; Halmstad – in the southwest; Ronneby in the south, as well as on the island of Gotland and the Berg naval base in the Stockholm archipelago.
It follows from the agreement that the US Armed Forces will have access to training areas, military camps, ports, air bases and airports. The law requires approval from the Swedish Parliament to come into force. The legislature will also need to decide on the constitutional amendments needed to implement the agreement. Discussion of these changes should take place in 2024.
