Addiction expert Ian Hamilton from the University of York (England) said that drinking alcohol disrupts the slow phase of sleep, which leads to fatigue and sluggishness in the morning. In this respect reports Daily mail.
The expert explained that the REM sleep phase, characterized by increased brain activity, is important for memory, learning and creativity. It allows the brain to rest and renew. Although alcohol has a sedative effect, its consumption during this period negatively affects sleep quality.
When alcohol enters the bloodstream from the stomach and small intestine, it is slowly broken down throughout the night. Night does not require active work of the digestive system and liver organs – this leads to frequent awakenings that occur in the fast phase. Intermittent sleep can cause grogginess in the morning and fatigue throughout the day. Additionally, drinking alcohol causes increased sweating, which leads to dehydration. This worsens headaches and poor health caused by poor quality sleep.
It was before named Alcoholic drink that strengthens memory.
