KMZ (Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant), the manufacturer of Bottlenose and Kasatka-2M boats, has started the pilot production of these ships with Russian engines and thrusters to be used as of 2024. This was reported by RIA News.
Previously, such boats were equipped with an imported power plant.
The new thrusters are designed for planing boats such as Afalina and Kasatka-2M, as well as light small boats of 5-5.5 meters in length.
The development of new power plants started a year ago and the first prototypes are now available. Small boats have already entered mass production.
All KMZ boats produced from 2024 will be equipped with Russian water jets. It is also planned to produce drive units along with the diesel engines currently on the stand. Thus, Bottlenose and other KMZ boats will use a completely Russian propulsion system, including engine and propulsion.
