Safina Namukwaya, who lives in Uganda, gave birth to twins (a boy and a girl) in the capital’s hospital, where she had previously undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF). The woman had a cesarean section, the premature babies were placed in an incubator (they were born at 31 weeks), both are in stable condition. In 2020, she gave birth to a daughter at the same institution with the help of in vitro fertilization treatment.
Namukwaya became the oldest woman to give birth at Uganda Women’s Hospital, which specializes in helping couples with infertility issues. International Hospital Center representative Arthur Matsiko said he was now healthy. The woman told the Ugandan newspaper Daily Monitor that her pregnancy was difficult because her husband left her when he found out she was expecting twins.
In 2019, a 73-year-old woman in southern India gave birth to twin girls after in vitro fertilization treatment. She is considered to be the oldest woman in the world to give birth.
