Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said in a briefing that China will take back from Great Britain two giant pandas that were transferred to England in 2011. This was reported by RIA News.

According to Wang Wenbin, this is in line with the cooperation agreement signed between the two countries.

“Giant pandas Yang Guang and Tian Tian will return to China after the agreement expires in December <…> China is ready to continue strengthening cooperation with international partners, including the United Kingdom, in the field of protecting endangered species and biodiversity, an official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

He added that China is ready to welcome the animals and is looking forward to them.

China is donating pandas to zoos around the world as part of Beijing’s diplomatic strategy. A number of conditions apply: Pandas, like their cubs, remain property of China.
