State Duma deputy Artem Metelev, in a conversation with socialbites.ca, defended the Russian women whom the police detained a few days ago for a photo shoot with red caviar sandwiches on Red Square. According to the deputy, with such photos the authors demonstrate the prosperity of Russia, and it is better for the police to pay attention to “violation of public order.”

“I think the police must have enough problems as it is. “It is better to direct your attention to the violation of public order, and not to random passers-by who are trying to tell the whole world with such a performance: everything is fine in Russia, you cannot wait,” he said.

20 November in Red Square detained blogger Gulina Naumann during a photo shoot in a fur coat and with a large sandwich with red caviar. According to him, the police explained this by saying that “you can’t show off” in the difficult times of the country.

Eight days later, photographer Olga Avlasenko and her model were detained for making sandwiches in Red Square. As he told socialbites.ca, the police considered the photo shoot with bagels and imitation caviar an unauthorized event.

In the video taken during Avlasenko’s arrest, a police officer says: “According to Article 54 of the federal law, this is prohibited on Red Square. Exactly with caviar, if you took pictures yourself – please. Here you have your bagels and apples. For you, this is happening as an action, no matter what, you will come with me from now on.”

After spending several hours in the department, both women were released without a report.
