“Our law clearly defines the procedure for inclusion and exclusion of foreign agencies from the registry. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that when a citizen is included in the registry as a foreign representative, this is not a kind of stigmatization for life or even beyond. We prescribed this procedure. If the reasons for recording it in the registry disappear, it is removed from this registry. Therefore, there is no point in discussing whether a citizen remains in the status of a foreign agent after death. This is entirely my opinion. Unfortunately, we give state awards after death. And when you say that, say, a citizen remains a foreign agent after death or is given the status of a foreign agent posthumously, I think this is unnecessary,” Alshevskikh said.
Another State Duma deputy, Oleg Matveychev, told socialbites.ca that this issue could lead to discussions in the State Duma, although the law on foreign agents does not provide for posthumous recognition as a foreign agent.
“If one of the MPs makes such an amendment, I think there will be controversy because there are arguments for and against. It will be interesting to discuss this in the commission,” said Matveychev.
