The USA plans to put PrSM – Precision Strike Missile missiles, which were successfully tested at a test site in New Mexico, into operation in the first quarter of 2024. This attracted attention RIA News.
Developer Lockheed Martin stated that although hitting targets at short distances is not the main mission of PrSM, this is the most difficult task due to the speeds being hypersonic.
According to the American portal Breaking Defense, the missile is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 85 km.
RIA Novosti notes that despite its high speed, PrSM is not a hypersonic weapon. The first delivery of the missile to American troops is expected to be made before the end of 2023. The Pentagon was expected to receive 3,986 such munitions, but Washington plans to increase the order following the supply of ATACMS to Ukraine.
According to Breaking Defense, Lockheed Martin plans to create an improved version of the missile – LBASM, Land-Based Anti-Ship Missile (land-based anti-ship missile).
According to preliminary plans, the third version will be able to carry more payload and the flight range will be doubled.
Lockheed Martin assures that its new missiles can greatly simplify multi-domain combat operations – when not only ground forces, but also combat aircraft are involved in performing tasks. In particular, complexes equipped with PrSM will be able to protect aircraft from the ground by attacking enemy air defense systems.
Last week it became known that Lockheed Martin Corporation, together with the US Army, tested the promising operational-tactical missile PrSM. More details in the material “socialbites.ca”.
