An international team of scientists from Canada, Iceland and the United Kingdom examined the relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a person’s tendency to engage in various romantic relationships and sexual activities. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH).
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can significantly impact daily functioning. People with ADHD often have difficulty sustaining attention while completing tasks, make careless mistakes, have difficulty organizing activities, and may be forgetful in daily life.
The study authors anonymously surveyed 1,466 middle-aged adult men and women. Participants reported any mental disorders they were diagnosed with, as well as their sexual activities, romantic relationships, sexual interests, and practices.
The results showed that 39% of survey participants were diagnosed with ADHD. However, the average number of sexual partners for women with ADHD is 12, compared to eight for women without ADHD. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder has also been found to reduce satisfaction with romantic relationships among women.
