Unidentified men in camouflage seized the UOC monastery in Cherkassy and beat the monks

In Ukraine, the monastery of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of the Nativity of the Virgin in Cherkasy was seized by raiders. This was reported by RIA News Referring to the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ).

»<…> A group of bandits in camouflage raided the monastery of the Nativity of Our Lady UOC. <…> They beat priests and parishioners hideously: they broke their jaws, beat off their kidneys and simply maimed them,” the UOJ said in a statement.

The organization stated that the police also participated in the raid on the monastery. After the seizure of the building, four people were hospitalized, including priest Sergei Pashchenko, whose lower jaw was broken. At the same time, all entrances to the Cherkasy hospital were blocked by representatives of the Ukrainian nationalist party.

Before this, they tried to capture the monastery on 16 November. But two days later, parishioners and priests held a meeting in which they confirmed the UOC’s commitment.
