South Korean authorities plan to ban the consumption of dogs as food by 2027 daily mail.
According to the authors of the initiative, the ban will be implemented in an environment where awareness about animal rights increases.
“It is time to put an end to the social conflicts and debates regarding the consumption of dog meat by passing a special law aimed at stopping this phenomenon,” the statement said.
Once the bill is submitted, it must be approved by the country’s parliament, which will then approve it.
Commenting on the innovation, Humane Society International said the decision was “a dream come true for all of us who have fought hard to end this cruelty”.
“The news that the South Korean government is finally ready to ban the dog meat industry is a dream come true for all of us,” the organization commented.
According to media reports, eating dog meat is a long-standing practice on the Korean Peninsula and is seen as a way to cope with the summer heat. But data shows that the popularity of such dishes is decreasing every year.
