A US woman had all four of her limbs amputated due to complications after contracting the flu. This was reported by daily mail.

Christine Fox, 42, of Ohio, went to the emergency room with a sore throat and was diagnosed with the flu. A few days later, his symptoms worsened, and upon re-examination, doctors found he had low blood pressure, lack of oxygen, and sepsis (severe inflammation due to infection in which an overreaction of the immune system leads to organ damage).

During her hospital stay, the woman was put on a ventilator, but within a day she developed bacterial pneumonia and her kidneys began to fail. The woman was placed in a medically induced coma to prevent her condition from worsening further. Because not enough blood was flowing to the limbs, doctors had to amputate them to save his life.

A few weeks later, the patient was sent to a medical center where he received physical therapy for three hours every day for six weeks to learn how to use prosthetic arms and legs. The arms were cut off just below the elbow, and the legs were cut off below the knees; thus, the woman was left with a relatively wide range of movement. Delay in amputation may result in more extensive limb removal and deterioration of the woman’s quality of life.
