The North Atlantic Alliance has approved a contract to replace its fleet of six AWACS aircraft with new ones by 2031. This is stated in a published NATO statement. TASS.
The message said, “NATO approved one of the largest military purchases in the history of the alliance.”
The document states that NATO has chosen new generation aircraft as existing aircraft are approaching the end of their service life. Six new Boeing E-7A aircraft are expected to be “operational ready” by 2031.
The statement states that the new aircraft is equipped with a powerful radar that can detect enemy combat vehicles from a very long distance and target NATO fighters at them.
In addition to NATO, these aircraft will also be supplied to alliance countries, including the USA, the UK and Turkey.
