Defense enterprises of European Union countries have increased their ammunition production capacity so that they will be able to provide Ukraine with the promised million rounds by March 2023; The only problem is supply priority. According to him, the capabilities to produce shells in the European Union have increased by 20-30% since February last year.
Breton emphasized that the goal of producing more than one million ammunition per year will be achieved by the spring of next year, and that ordering is the responsibility of EU member states. It is the EU countries, not the European Commission, that must place these orders and ensure that Ukraine becomes a priority target for production on its territory.
The official explained that everything will depend on whether EU countries want to place such orders for materials or production facilities to Ukraine.
The European Commissioner added that he discussed with the heads of the defense ministries of the EU countries a new defense strategy that ensures not only the production of ammunition of the European Union but also the comprehensive development of the defense sector.
