The court ordered the repair of a dam in the Northern Baikal region of Buryatia due to the flooding of a section of the Baikal-Amur Main Line (BAM) in August. This has been reported Web site public prosecutor’s office.
The incident occurred on August 19 when the Kholodnaya River overflowed due to abnormal rainfall. The flow of water partially destroyed the dam and washed out the railway line. Thus, 200 meters of the regional road and 1,800 meters of the railway line were flooded. A state of emergency was in effect in the Republic.
Following the incident, train traffic along BAM was stopped. However, on August 23, traffic along the highway was reopened.
The prosecutor’s examination showed that the dam belonged to the municipality, but the local government did not carry out major repairs, so the barrier was washed away.
The prosecutor filed a lawsuit with the court demanding the repair of the dam. The judge accepted the request, but the decision has not yet entered into legal force.
