Alsa joins forces with Eco Rail to deliver high-speed and commuter rail lines

Asturian road passenger transport company BusIt reached an agreement with the Spanish company Eco Rail of the Magtel group, a subsidiary of the British group Mobico. opt for the next phase of rail transport liberalization with the aim of favoring the awarding of both high-speed, suburban and medium-distance services.

The two companies have had railway transport licenses and railway safety certificates for years. The Asturian company already operates tourist trains in Spainmanagement of railway terminals in ports, training school for train drivers and other services in the railway sector.

Alsa and Eco Raíl have been working on the project for three years and plan to include at least a third partner in order to participate in the tenders that should be awarded in 2025. The information developed by “Expansión” was verified by both groups. La Nueva Spain from the Prensa Ibérica group.

Both companies had shown interest in entering into the provision of commercial rail services in the first version of high-speed passenger transport. this led to the Iryo and Ouigo groups ending the Renfe monopoly.

The Asturian Cosmen Menéndez-Castañedo family, Mobico’s largest shareholder, is leading a consortium of financial and industrial partners to compete with Eurostar through rail services connecting the European continent and the United Kingdom via the Eurotunnel under the Channel, also from 2025 . . This project is undertaken by Cosmen through the company Evolyn, apart from Mobico. Mobico, a major train operator in the United Kingdom, currently has a presence in the rail sector in Germany and, through Alsa, in Spain.
